After opening the package I noticed topper feels cool to the touch and almost damp sensation a good sign it'll actually wick away the heat. The chemical smell takes more than a night to disappear. I think the smell is like paint that is almost dried. Memory foam is a bunch of chemicals so this is normal unless it has been stored some where for a while.Sleeping on the topper, I noticed this topper is slightly warmer than my blanket. Compared to regular memory foam this is a huge improvement. At times memory foam will get hot enough that it will wake me up. Unlike a lot of people I'm perfectly comfortable on almost any mattress. So my input on how comfortable my sleep is, won't be very helpful. However if you find memory foam too warm this gel topper will help.Update:I dropped a star, because after a month I noticed a lumpy spot. It turns out the topper is shedding small gel pellets. There could long term durability issues. As of right now, it looks like cut blue spots are where the pellets are coming out from.3 months in and the gel pellets don't shed at a noticeable level. The condition of the topper still looks good. I would say it is holding up very well.

I have a queen sized futon which was making my back too uncomfortable to sleep. I got the 2 inch foam because I judged it would fit in the futon cover I had along with the futon mattress. It fit, barely. This gel foam topper is the same size as the widest center part of the mattress, not the curved top, so this is a full queen size. The foam indents like the picture and takes about 30 seconds to fill back out, so it cradles you as you sit or lay. It makes for a very comfortable padding, and I am now able to sleep the night and not wake with back pains.It also wicks the heat away from you. Now I run hot, so this makes it less likely for me to kick off the covers each night and wake with the part against the bed hot and the part uncovered cool. I like this feature a lot. The heat is dispersed so the part you are not laying on is a bit warmer, and where you are laying is not too hot. I suppose if you are always cold, you might want to add an electric blanket to your bed.All in all, I think this is very comfortable, and I may get it for my softer futon mattress as well.

We purchased this mattress topper on June 17th for our king size bed. For two weeks it was fantastic! However, after that the foam lost its 'oomph' and was not nearly as cushy and doesn't recoil to the same leveal. Equally disturbing is the discovery that after one month of use, the 'cooling gel beads' are shedding from the foam at a drastic rate. During the last bedding wash day, I swept up (from the foam topper approx.) 1 cup of the cooling gel beads. Due to these observations, I am unhappy with the quality of this item and trying to decide whether or not to return it and order another. If I do, I will follow-up on my experience with customer service.
