Steeped in Historic Charleston's rich, classic style and decorative arts culture, the King Charles 100-Percent cotton matelasse bedding collection offers the ultimate blend of European, Caribbean, and Asian influences. King Charles matelasse bedding offers a luxuriously soft bedspread, coverlet, bedskirt, shams and decorative accent pillows featuring classic 19th century motifs representing the sun, a topiary, a pheasant, and a pineapple. The superior design of King Charles matelasse can be traced back to England circa 1820, incorporating key influences from that time period including the fine arts and quality craftsmanship. Each individual piece is constructed on a special weaving loom to create the luxurious design that defines this lovely classic matelasse collection. Highs and lows created during the jacquard weaving process allow the motifs and sourrounding designs to come to life. Intricate details including rolling arches, half moons, double diamonds and scrolling vines come together to create this beautiful collection. Coverlet and bedspread drape beautifully over the bed to reveal rounded corners. Pair the bedspread with bedskirt to create a complete look. Add coordinating, decorative shams and pillows to create the ultimate bedroom oasis. The heavy-weight, stonewashed matelasse of King Charles bedding ensures life-long durability and style for generations to come.

By S. Woodhouse
Firstly, the color. No, it is not gold as represented in some of these photos but I understood that when I ordered. It is not quite pastel yellow, either. It is the color of butter (not margarine) after it has been out of the fridge a while. I would not call this matelasse, either. It may have been made on matelasse looms; I can't tell. But it has no stiffness, crispness, or "hand" to the fabric. It is nicely weighted, a good quality cotton, but the drape is soft, like your grandmother's old sculpted bedspread. As to size, it is generous. I buy queen bedspreads to use as coverlets on my Cal-King bed, and this one worked nicely. I haven't washed it, but I think it will wash well. If it shrinks, I'll update here in a couple of weeks. A lovely addition to your linen closet, so long as you know what it is. BTW, you can buy this spread elsewhere, but I shopped aggressively and could not beat this price.

This bedspread is classic--reminds me of days past when things were made to last. You don't mind paying a bit more for exceptional quality like this!

The blue wasn't quite as dark as I thought it would be but it worked beautifully in the bedroom. I'm also very pleased with the size or coverage of the bed. It's just right.
